A Paradise and a Living Classroom

Can we be both? A paradise and a living classroom? A place where families vacation and have fun, together with a place of learning?

Yes, but don’t worry – it’s always fun. When you visit you’ll often see members of our staff walking around with binoculars and cameras, tracking down a three-toed sloth, a red-eyed tree frog, a howler monkey, a keel-billed toucan, or a morpho butterfly. Or racing off to see our newest calf or the blossoming of a rare flower. Or going off into the rainforest to see new growth that rapidly emerges after the fall of giant tree. Every experience is fresh and new here: the rainforest and our farm change moment by moment, often dramatically, and we who live here are in a state of constant awe and gratitude. So yes, it’s a place of learning, but the learning happens effortlessly and is led by the heart.

Guests often write that their experiences at our farm and lodge were life changing – in a very good way. When you visit us you’ll see first hand how we can grow food regeneratively and in harmony with Nature. You’ll learn how humans and forests can exist together and actually support one another. Most importantly, we hope you’ll feel the joy of connecting to a healthy ecosystem, rich with biodiversity, birdsong, and beauty.

A Tradition of Care

Finca Luna Nueva is an expression of my devotion to farming and biodiversity. In a deep sense, it is my life’s work. Here at Luna Nueva we practice “regenerative agriculture,” which means we produce nourishing foods while also regenerating soil and reversing climate change.

Regenerative Agriculture

WELCOME TO THE GREAT HOPE OF REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

Every day at Finca Luna Nueva is a step in the direction of greater soil fertility, healthier food, and a replenished ecosystem.  We recognize that mankind hasn’t always been kind to our precious planet, and we need to deal with excess CO2 in the atmosphere, the dramatic loss of topsoil and fertility, floods and droughts, and the collapse of biodiversity.   With regenerative agriculture we have a tool to repair the damage.  We are at the forefront of this agricultural revolution, teaching regenerative techniques to people from all over the world.  And when you take our farm tour you’ll get an introduction into our work and mission.

For more information about the world movement to adopt regenerative agriculture, please visit http://www.thecarbonunderground.org  and www.regenerationinternational.org.

REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

This is our every-moment focus.  Everything we do at Finca Luna Nueva is designed to optimize photosynthesis, draw excess carbon down from the atmosphere, create carbon-rich topsoil, and reverse climate change.  We can’t wait to teach you about the next wave of agriculture!

ORGANIC FARMING

We’ve been farming organically since 1994.  Organic farming doesn’t use genetically modified seeds, synthetic pesticides, or chemical fertilizers.  It was a good place to start, and we’re proud of our long-standing commitment to organic farming.

A Unique Experience

Feed the Soul and the Body

It’s time for you to experience yoga in the rainforest!  Our spacious bamboo yoga pavilion is surrounded by tropical flowers and exotic trees and bathed in the sounds and energy of the jungle.  The platform comfortably accommodates yoga and meditation retreats.  Our retreat center also features a spring-fed and solar-heated jacuzzi and a spa staffed by a professional masseuse trained in many therapeutic modalities.  And while you’re feeding your soul you’ll enjoy our farm-to-table dining featuring produce and dairy from our regenerative farm.

Peace, Adventure, & A Little Bit of Luxury

We are a rainforest lodge and educational center, and our guests are offered a mix of peace, adventure, and a little bit of luxury.  Many people visit us and never leave the grounds of our estate.  We have miles of hiking trails through the forest, farm, and fields, and even advanced birders or professional herbalists will be thrilled to take in the biodiversity surrounding us.   But we are only 25 minutes by car from La Fortuna, the adventure capital of Costa Rica.  Our reception department can arrange expeditions and adventures that meet your adrenalin requirements.  You can take photo safaris up lazy jungle rivers, white-water raft with expert guides, bird watch in the cloud forest, take strenuous hikes up volcanos and swim in crater lakes.  Or you can lounge at our glorious pool and drift off in hammocks.  It’s all here, in a setting that we call “rustic but majestic.”

A Legacy Of Conservation

We neighbor the world-famous Children’s Eternal Rainforest and connect to approximately 250,000 acres of protected rainforest.   We have worked with partners to purchase land along the Rio Chachagua to create a wildlife corridor to this rainforest. In just a few years many of the native hardwood trees we planted in this corridor are now more than 40 feet tall, vines are forming an above-ground network of plant life, and wildlife is returning.  We are proud to have played a part in the regeneration of the rainforest, and we salute the leadership of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest for its great work in the heart of Costa Rica. Visit www.acmcr.org for more information about this critical rainforest and how you can support it.
