Farm Tour 1: compost, garden, and farm animals

See what keeps our crops healthy, from our happy water buffalo to the wiggling worms in our compost.  Begin by walking through our cacao orchard past our private reserve that is connected to the 50,000 acre Children's Eternal Rainforest via a biological corridor.

Next, stroll through our biointensive garden, where you will taste numerous plants and herbs, the same ones we serve daily in our restaurant.  After the garden you will see our pigs, goats, and chickens and learn how they contribute to the sustainability of the farm.

Your tour will end at our composting area, where we will show you how our composting and biodynamic systems create a more fertile land for ourselves and for future generations.

Duration — 2 hours

Farm Tour 2: water buffalo, cheese making, blackwater system

This farm tour includes our cattle and water buffalo, our cheese making facility, and our pond purification system (blackwater system).  For those who are interested we can start the tour early in the morning so you get a chance to help our farmhands Yeudy and Fernando milk the cows.

Come see our huge water buffalo and the lecheria where we milk our goats and dairy cows.  Visit our cheese making facilities, where we will show you our cheese making process, and let you taste some fresh goat or cow cheese.

Lastly, you will walk around the ponds of our blackwater system, one of the many ways we have increased the sustainability of our farm.  Our blackwater system, is designed to filter manure from our dairy run-off and provide nutrients for plants, clams, and freshwater fish.

Secret Waterfall Hike

Enjoy a Costa Rica that few tourists are lucky enough to see. This rigorous endurance hike takes you up the rock roads of our town, past local houses and small farms, and ends with a 10 minute hike through rich rainforest into the heart of the jungle.

The final destination is a breath-taking 30 foot waterfall and swimming hole. After you’re refreshed by a dip in the cool natural swimming hole, the beauty of this hidden treasure will astound you.  Amongst giant trees, vines, and tropical birds you can enjoy the view as water runs down the side of the accompanying cliff, shimmering  as it flows over deep green moss.

Note: The hike to the waterfall is almost all uphill, and includes a little climbing.  Therefore, it should only be undertaken by those in good physical condition.

Corridor Reforestation Project

In an effort to encourage the large mammals such as the jaguar and puma to return to healthy numbers in our forest, we have begun a project building biological corridors. Species which require a large area of forest to live and hunt happily can increase in numbers when they are not confined to a single area or altitude. Due to invasive human intervention much of their natural habitat has been divided.

While we can preserve our section of the rain forest, it won't be enough to preserve its creatures unless their natural habitat is extended.  Come with us to this biological corridor and plant a tree to help us achieve our goal of connecting the 50 hectares of Luna Nueva's rain forest with the 22,500 hectares of  The Children's Eternal Rain Forest. Our hope is that through planting trees that extend sections of the rain forest we can create protected corridors, enabling wildlife to travel through much larger areas.
